Last night, citizen journalist, Joseph Budna, was involved in a high speed chase - only he was the one doing the chasing. Budna was on his motorcycle when he noticed an Elections & Boundaries truck in the middle of the road in downtown San Ignacio. He began following the vehicle to see if the driver was intoxicated, and claims he was almost knocked down. Here is a snippet of the video he took.

We reached out to Chief Elections Officer, Josephine Tamai, for comment and she told us that the vehicle was out on official duties. She said, quote, "During the transfer of electors period and other busy periods, my staff has to work long hours to conduct investigations...Thereafter the officer reported that she asked the driver to stop very briefly to speak to someone which was less than 1 minute. They both reported it was right after that they saw this motorcycle tailing them closely and the driver of the cycle pulling something out from his side. Fearing for their lives the driver reported he sped off frightened." End quote.

Tamai added that she asked them why they didn't stop when they saw the police station, to which they said they were just so frightened. She ended her statement by saying the people, quote, "don't realize the risk officers take to get the job done."
