The 7 so-called sicarios….that was the scare that went out a week ago, but tonight - it hasn't amounted to much. And today, one of the Mexicans was in Belize city Magistrate's court - and he almost got his freedom.

Javier Montano Martinez pleaded guilty to failure to present himself to an Immigration Officer upon arrival into Belize - received a minor fine and was supposed to have been expelled. But that didn't happen. His attorney Bryan Neal explained why:

Bryan Neal, Attorney-at-law
"This man entered Belize and a report was made that he was some member of the Mexican cartel. The police have had a week to investigate, they've had this man in custody for more than seventy-two hours, in violation of the constitution. This morning now, they bring a charge against him to say that he entered and did not present himself to an immigration officer. He paid his fine and the magistrate ordered him to be taken and expelled from Belize. Once I paid the fine and came to immigration to follow up, to make sure that he is released, now they are telling me that they intend to charge him with some other crime."

Reporter
"Have they shared with you what is possible the charges that will be levied against him, if any?"

Bryan Neal, Attorney-at-law
"What they have said to me doesn't make sense and I don't want to repeat stupidness."

Montano Martinez was at court with the Mexican Embassy who was assisting him.

Up until this evening, we still didn't know what the charge was. According to Neal, his client has a working permit to do work in Belize.
