The owner of a grocery store was shot during an armed robbery in Punta Gorda last night. It happened at around 11:00 at #36 Restaurant on Queen Street in Punta Gorda Town. Police told us today how the owner was shot in his wrist:

"On the third day of September 2023 around 11:05 PM police responded to a robbery report at Queens Street Punta Gorda Town. Upon their arrival, they found Jianfu Chen with a gunshot injury to the wrist. Chen reported that he was at his restaurant closing the shutters when two male persons entered armed with firearms a struggle ensued and he was shot to the wrist. Thereafter one of the male persons then went to the cash pan and stole an undisclosed amount of money. Thereafter both male persons fled from the area. Chen was taken to the hospital where he was treated and is in a stable condition. We are reviewing video footage in regards to this investigation."
Police recovered a.38 expended slug.
