Was it an IED or not? A literally explosive story that emerged yesterday on Channel 5 about a supposed improvised explosive device somehow affixed to a Maya Island Air plane left many scratching their heads.
Tonight - information from police sources suggests that it might just have been a spent fireworks cartridge.
Channel 5 quoted from an alarming report compiled by the BDF Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit on this supposed explosive. The BDF experts concluded that the device was real and had it been set off on board the flight, it could have caused the aircraft to explode.
That's truly terrifying but could it just be totally wrong?
Pictures obtained by 7news of fireworks - basically rockets - sold in San Pedro resemble almost exactly the device found on the Maya aircraft. We're told that this type of rocket may have also recently been used in Independence Day Celebrations.
So is it fireworks or an IED? We'll press for answers next week.
