So, with those impressive crime figures, the commissioner's tenure - often challenged in some quarters - seemed more secure than ever. We asked him about his standing in the corridors of power where commissioners are made, or made to go home:
Jules Vasquez
"Do you feel that with this performance that it makes your position stronger as commissioner and more unassailable, undeniable as a case maybe?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Well it certainly refutes the assertion made by some that I have become ineffective. As the commissioner I know I have a job to do and every day I come to work and I do that job. Yes, I know that there are some who wish to see me leave and maybe waiting to take over. If or when that time comes."
"But people must learn to wait their turn. It's as simple as that. I am not being forced out of the post of commissioner. I believe I enjoy the confidence of the prime minister as well as my minister and maybe even by extension the entire cabinet."
