And while he may be under media scrutiny - Commissioner Williams is delivering with lower crime statistics. And in the calculus of the body politic - that makes him very valuable, despite what we have found to be a dysfunctional gun licensing regime.

Today, his Minister discussed his political standing, but deftly pivoted to say it was a department wide success:

Reporter
"With the crime statistics that currently stand at murder down by 22%, does this solidify Chester's position of support in cabinet?"

Kareem Musa, Minister of Police
"I think that more than the commissioner's solidification, it is the entire department. You know, many times police have a very thankless job. Many times the media are the first to go and attack the police department. But you have seen over the last year where there have been changes in terms of less accusations against the police department for abuse and brutality."

"And so you can see where there is a pivot within the department. And along with that comes excellent police work going hand in hand with the LIU. And so yes, at the very top there is the commissioner of police, but all police officers, I think that this year has been a good year for them."

"And so we have to congratulate them when it is that we're seeing the kind of results that we're now seeing."
