Over the past few weeks we've kept you updated on the showdowns at the Sarstoon, one on September 10th, and the other last week Friday.

It's created a tense atmosphere - especially since last week, Will Maheia said that the Guatemalan soldiers had their hands on their weapons as they berated him and his crew about being in Guatemalan waters illegally - when he was clearly inside Belize.

Since then, multiple government ministers have urged the Maheia and the Territorial Volunteers to be cautious and not provoke the Guatemalans.

The Minister of Defence and Border Security Florencio Marin met with Maheia earlier this week. He said they kind of agreed on a way forward.

Florencio Marin, Minister of Defense

"As you know what we have explained to Mr Maheia and the BTV that we believe in freedom of movement for Belizeans so on no part do we feel that they should be restricted or they should not go. That is a Belizean right. But we did emphasize to him that there is a safety concern cause we've seen children going. For those of you who know the area it has deep waters it has muddy waters so aside from being on the border those waters can be very tricky and when you're taking more than one civilian you need to have all the necessary precautions so that was our biggest concern with him and i believe Will fully accepted that from us that yes he needs to take the proper precautions.and we told him cooperate with us and we will work together on it."
