The trial against Attorney Oscar Selgado continued this morning with the conclusion of the trial within a trial, which was to determine whether Giovanni Ramirez's statement could be used, since he claims he fears for his life.
Yesterday you heard Selgado's attorney say he was planning to call two witnesses today. The first witness should have been a medical professional from the KHMH, who would testify whether Ramirez had been shot and was being treated. That witness did not appear because he said he did not feel he could assist the court.
The second witness was Marco Marin, a Junior IT application specialist from Digi. He examined the call detail records database to gather whether any calls to Selgado from Ramirez's number were made between February 6th to March 15th, 2019. Marin testified that there were no records, however, when the DPP cross examined him, she asked whether their system would record social media calls, such as a WhatsApp call. He stated that it would not have picked that up.
The DPP now has until November 15th to hand in written submission, after which the defense will have to respond by November 22nd. The trial will resume on November 23rd.
