Tonight, a mother and daughter have been freed after police say they killed an abusive man in self defence.

As we have reported, on Saturday, 52-year-old Dean Halliday. attacked his ex-girlfriend with a knife in Sandhill and ended up dead. His death is still being investigated, and up until yesterday, the victim and her daughter were detained by police. Today, police said the mother and daughter have been freed after it was found to be a stabbing in self defence:

ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"An investigation was carried out. The file was sent to the DPP and after the investigation, directives came that they both were released and were released and not charged."

Jules Vasquez
"The evidence seems to suggest that they had been attacked and their surveillance video showing him jumping over their fence. So are all those indicators which influence the DPP's decision?"

ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"Yes, that is correct. Several videos were obtained. Interviews were conducted, statements were recorded and those were forwarded and after that that determination was made by the DPP."

Jules Vasquez
"So from the police's perspective, it has the appearance of a self defense?"

ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"Yes, that is the appearance, yes."

For the record, the women's family denies all claims that the daughter stabbed him because she was unarmed and she received injuries herself. She told her aunt that she did not do it.
