Turning now to crime news, it's been a little over a week since the last murder was reported. But last night, an Asian man from Cayo was killed in Ladyville. 37-year-old Canhua Zhen was reportedly fishing in Vista Del Mar with three other men when a gunman fired off 12 shots. Zhen was the only one hit, and he died on the spot. We reached out to the Belize-Chinese Association today and the president, Johnston Ou, explained that while he did not know the victim, he was in the process of contacting his wife who lives with him in Benque Viejo Del Carmen.
Notably, one of the three men with Zhen last night, 31-year-old Zhichao Tan, was charged in early October after he was busted with 46 grams of crystal meth.
Police say they don't know if it was a targeted shooting, or if someone was just randomly firing a weapon in the area.
