For over a year, the Forward Operating Base at Sarstoon has been deemed unlivable due to the massive erosion it has been faced with. We've heard the National Defense Minister and the Brigadier General say over and over that it will be fixed, but engineers must carefully construct a plan so that the erosion doesn't damage it a few years down the road.

And one person who has been keeping a close eye on the base is Wil Maheia. Today, he congratulated the government after he saw a barge heading toward the FOB.

Wil Maheia, Leader, BTV

"We are here at almost the mouth of the Sarstoon and we see this barge that is going there right now and we want to really thank the government, the prime minister came here about a month ago and made the promise that the work will commence and actually the work has commenced so respect to that. We are out here and we don't see a lot of illegal fishing so I think it's important for Belizeans to know that once you speak up, that you will get things done so we just want to say, thanks to the Coast Guard, thanks to the BDF, thanks to the government for sending the materials and the workmen to repair the forward operating base, it's important that we have the forward operating base there so that we could maintain the territorial integrity of Belize and keep our waters healthy and clean."
