And the UDP issued a statement today reiterating its position - but also trying to have it both ways. The release says, "The United Democratic Party (UDP) expresses deep concern over the sustained war between Israel and Hamas.

We regret the loss of all innocent lives and the escalation of violence in the region.

Our prayers are with the Israeli and Palestinian people, we therefore call for unimpeded humanitarian aid to civilians, return of all hostages, end to terrorism, observance of international law and a conclusion of military operations to prevent further loss while establishing security and a Two State Solution."

But the statement adds, quote, "the UDP is disturbed by the recent decision of the People's United Party (PUP) government to suspend diplomatic ties with Israel and withdraw the accreditation of Israel's ambassador to Belize. We believe that maintaining open channels of communication is vital for fostering understanding and working towards a lasting solution to conflicts." End quote.
