And while the mother of baby Ayana is left to grapple with unanswered questions and uncertainty about what happened to her child while in the care of foster parents, the chairman of Spanish Lookout says that the community is also in a state of shock at what has happened. Jomarie Lanza spoke to him in Spanish Lookout today:
Harry Letkemen, Chairman, Spanish Lookout

"In my case it was unbelief or disbelief right I couldn't believe that a child would have died at the hands of parents you know. If you consider the unfortunate situation that the child is ought to be placed into foster care and then for somebody to take that in and to harm that child was just more than I could imagine right. I think we are shocked and we know that a child cannot protect itself it's fully dependents on the care of those adults around it and in the case of baby Iyanna, what can I say I'm just shocked I think we are all shocked and I would like to go on the record and apologize to her mother he parents and the entire country we are just very deeply saddened by this situation. There is no words to express the agony we could imagine if I was a parent and this has happened to me there is nothing I can't even begin to imagine what I would do."

"And this is the first time something like this has happened here?"
Harry Letkemen, Chairman, Spanish Lookout
"Yes as far as I know yes."
