4 out of the 9 individuals travelling in the Chevy Silverado sustained fatal injuries. One 15 year old passenger remains in critical condition at the KHMH. ACP Hilbero Romero informed us today police believe that a number of them were seated in the Pan on the pickup truck.

Though widely practiced, this goes against traffic regulations, and he says that the transport department responsible for patrolling highways has a duty to stop and ticket persons travelling in the pan of trucks.

ACP Hilbero Romero, OCED
"Investigation is that the driver of the pickup at the time was Sherwin Garbutt and he was heading to Belmopan when he lost control of the vehicle, flipped several times and several persons were injured and 4 persons received fatal injuries. They are Sherwin Garbutt, Timothy Neal, Delwin Armstrong and Edwin Brown. The rest of the occupants of the vehicle at the time, there were 9 total, are receiving treatment."

Courtney Menzies:
"Considering there were 9 people, it's safe to assume that some of those people were in the pan of the truck?"

ACP Hilbero Romero, OCED
"Yes, that is the information we have, they were in the pan of the pickup truck."

Courtney Menzies:
"When trucks like these pass checkpoints are they stopped and something happens?"

ACP Hilbero Romero, OCED
"Yes, that is an offense when they pass any checkpoint they are given a ticket or they can be taken to court for that offense."

Courtney Menzies:
"This happens frequently though, where we see people in the pans of trucks, is there anything more the highway patrol can do to minimize this?"

ACP Hilbero Romero, OCED
"Yes, we also have the transport department on the highways and when these persons are seen, they are given tickets or summoned to court."
