Tonight, the Customs Department is trying to figure out how a stolen vehicle with an off duty police officer driving it - even got into the country.
The vehicle is a 2017 SEAT Ibiza - stolen in the Yucatan area of Mexico in July 2017. It looks like this one - the photo of which we took off the internet.
But confirmed reports say that earlier this week in the Belize district it was stopped at a customs checkpoint. Two police officers - who are siblings were inside - along with another officer - who is on interdiction. Customs personnel checked and determined that the vehicle was a stolen vehicle - and licensed fraudulently NO CUSTOMS DOCUMENTATION to show it entering the country.
But, still, it carried what looked like a valid license and registration - and had a previous license in Corozal - both of those in the name of the wife of the police officer who was driving.
The police officers have not been charged - and the vehicle impounded at customs. We'll keep following it.
