After noticing a spike of aggravated burglaries - or home invasions - within the past few weeks, the police department is cracking down on its home safety campaign. When we spoke with the minister yesterday he told us that they are aware of the aggravated burglaries happening in remote areas which is why they plan to increase their police presence. The compol told us more today about the other measures they will be taking to stop these crimes:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

"Certainly compared to last year. At this time we do have an increase mostly property crimes is an issue for us and it is something that we will have to address not alone, but with these support of these citizens. As I said before, we will be looking at doing a lot of campaigns using social media and even you with the different media houses to be able to help us reach people and explain to them basically what they can do to keep their surroundings safe what they can do to deter criminals from coming to their home. These are things that we want to look at this year and it will be done through a number of campaigning, and we also want to see how we can develop good neighborhood watch groups in different areas because some of these areas that are being affected are not areas where we do have police stations or where we have the presence of police patrol on a daily basis. so we will have to see what we can do to perhaps expand our patrols in some remote areas and with a view to see how we can provide some semblance of safety to those people but likewise you know when you live in remote areas, we will hope to do certain things that will Aid towards their personal security."
