And so tonight, licensed gun owners are surely under scrutiny. And the closest thing they have to a lobby group is The Belize Firearms Association.
Tonight, they have issued a rare release saying, quote, We write this….as concerned citizens deeply troubled by the devastating impact of gun-related violence on our communities and with the most recent events that occurred in Belize City and the other in Belmopan….we stand united in condemning the use of guns as tools of violence. Firearms are intended for lawful purposes….and should never be wielded to inflict harm or instill fear." End quote.
They reiterated four commitments including:
1- Promote responsible firearm ownership practices...
2. Advocate for comprehensive measures to prevent gun violence, including enhanced law enforcement efforts...
They end their release stating that controlling the level of gun violence requires the attention of all leaders, agencies and citizens.
