And in another gun licensing story tonight...

Since the start of the year Security firms have not yet been able to renew their license to operate meaning that all the firearms under the various companies are all unlicensed.

That's a serious state of affairs and we asked the compol for an update today on the work of the Firearms and Ammunition Control Board, and how soon they should begin to make approvals for licensing. Here's what he told us today.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Well if it is an issue for the due to the firearms control board not being able to meet and process those applications with security company and continue to operate so I'm sure that the firearms ammunition control board is not going to penalize them for doing so as long as they continue to work with those security officers who are already granted personal or who are already added to their company licensing then they should be able to operate without any fear of being arrested. if they were to inject new security officers into the company who have not yet been vetted or approved for any previous license then that would be an issue so I would just urge them to continue to operate the different businesses that they work for and they do require their services and we from a law enforcement standpoint. We want the business to have their services because that helps us as well to be able to ensure that we do what we can to reduce the occurrences of crime, particularly in Belize city. So again, I don't see the firearms control board can penalize them for continuing to operate when in fact, it is the fault of the board that they have not been able to renew their license."
