And the other conviction is not for murder, but for manslaughter. Three years after she was accused of stabbing her sister in law to death, Gracie Rock resident 28 year old Leanne Davis was found guilty of the lesser offense of manslaughter of 24 year old Venecia Staine.

Staine was stabbed six times to the body and died from a puncture to her lung.

The trial began on May 1st and concluded on May 8th with testimony from two crown witnesses, the victim's niece and mother.

But today she appeared in court before Justice Candace Nanton who found her guilty of manslaughter and not murder, on the grounds that she found extreme provocation in the case. Nanton also ordered a Psychiatric Evaluation and Social Inquiry Report to be conducted on Davis - a mother of two - before she hands down her sentencing. Davis was represented in court by attorney Leeroy Banner. Her sentencing has been deferred for July 29.

Davis has been on remand since 2021 - and according to her mother - has not seen her sons during that time.
