Two American students spent the first night of their Belize family vacation at the Ladyville Police Station. That's because they were caught with marijuana in their luggage after they arrived in the country on a Jet Blu flight at 1:30 yesterday afternoon. 18 year old Jackiel Barrow was busted with 3.45 grams and his cousin, 24 year old Anthony Burrows-Steele had 10.46 grams in his luggage. They were both arrested and charged with the importation of a controlled drug.

They appeared in court this morning where they were arraigned. Both pleaded guilty and were imposed a non-custodial sentence of $200 each. While the magistrate explained that the offense is a grave one, the two men were given leniency because they are first time offenders and they were caught with minuscule amounts of marijuana.

Both men were ordered to pay their fines forthwith, in default, 2 months imprisonment. They were able to pay off the fine less than an hour later.
