But there are a number of these kinds of cases floating around within the system, awaiting a judicial outcome. And before she could share her opinion, Garcia says that it's best to reserve comment until the investigation concludes:
Thea Garcia Ramirez, Minister of Human Development, Families and Gender Affairs:
"I think there is over the last week or 2 we have seen so many cases involving minors and sexual and physical abuse. First of all I want to ask the public and the media to be very careful on how they share information because oftentimes sharing the name and the face of the perpetrator will lead you to know who the victim is. So a lot of times the authorities and even the ministry will not share the names of the predators not because we want to shield them but because we are trying to safeguard the dignity and the integrity of the victim. With that being said it is my position and i believe the position of the ministry and the greater government that all of these allegations must be investigated no matter who it is and who they are against it should not matter whether the person was a government official or what his social status is they must all be investigated and in addition to that I think that once the investigation is complete let the chips fall where they must because this is now a pandemic now in Belize."
