A prisoner is clinging to life tonight after he was shot to the head and neck during an escape attempt this morning. It happened at the Central Prison in Hattieville at 9:20 am during recreation time. After opening the cells, inmate Nyrere Parchue was seen shortly after in an out-of-bounds area behind the building, approaching the tower.

The tower guard said he gave him several verbal warnings to stop and return to his building. But Parchue did not stop. Instead he walked over to the moat and jumped into the water. The officer in the tower then fired three warning shots. Other watchtower officers joined in and they are reported to have fired a total of 7 warning shots.

But, undaunted, Parchue then climbed the fence and reached all the way to the top, which is when an officer fired a shot that hit him in the neck and head and he crashed to the ground. The prison medical officer stabilized him and then rushed him to the KHMH - where he is being treated tonight.

So, why did they shoot him in the head? Well, the Prison CEO Virgilio Murillo told us the guards were aiming at his feet, but the recoil may have caused the gun to go higher.

Parchue is presently convicted and in late July went up to prison to serve time for possession of a controlled drug and damage to property.

Notably, when Parchue appeared in court three weeks ago, his mother expressed concerns about his mental health - telling the court he had threatened to kill his entire family.

We also note that he has survived a shot to the head before. In 2018 he was the victim of a robbery when the gunman shot him to the head.
