A drowning in Valley of Peace claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy. It comes one day after a 17 year old drowned in Ladyville.
Police say that around 4:50 p.m., they responded to reports of a drowning at a farm pond on the outskirts of the village. When officers arrived, they found the body of 13-year-old Jaden Emmanuel Marroquin lying face up outside the pond.
Initial investigations reveal that Jaden had been left in the care of his grandfather, 61-year-old farmer Gustavo Marroquin. Sometime in the afternoon, Jaden reportedly wandered off without his grandfather's knowledge. When his younger sister could not find him, she raised the alarm, telling their grandfather that Jaden had gone to the pond.
A neighbor tied himself with a plastic strap and entered the pond, where he discovered Jaden entangled in a net. He managed to pull the boy out, but there were no signs of life.
