And while Pop was allegedly abducted from a border village by a Guatemalan mob - Joseph Budna was abducted - he says - by Belizean police in the Belizean interior.
Tonight he is in what is called Guatemala's most notorious prison, "Preventivo Para Varones de Zona 18" in Guatemala City. There was a warrant for his arrest in that country after he escaped from prison in 2019 while serving a 25 year sentence.
But, it appears he is the subject of an extrajudicial extradition and speaking to 7News yesterday he said that no citizen should be made to face such a fate:

"No citizen should be kidnapped out of their country, to a foreign country, especially a country like Guatemala. And I hope that the leader of the opposition, calling upon the leader of the opposition and all those in Belize, that stands for what is right, don't let this go just like this because it happens to me, it can happen to other Belizeans as well."
