And while awareness can only do so much, the greatest health threat is the damage screwworms can do to humans.

"I think that for the two cases that we speak those, persons had contact with animals and in the farms, and they were in the farm setting and so we have to understand that 1 of the patients I know was also a diabetic and so it is risky as you know the fly attaches to an open wound and that is their feeding ground. And the minute that fly lays an egg within 24 hours you are already having what you call it the actual screwworm, a small larva. And in the next 48 hours it has already grown. aAd so but it is about sensitization and it is about people understanding what needs to be done and protecting yourself because it is something that is in the animals and I would hope we don't see more of these types of case as we have seen in America where they have said that they have now detected their first case I think in, I don't remember in which state with this screwworm and in humans. So it is something we have to address and ensure that we minimize and sensitize our people."
