There's an outbreak of dengue in the city - and a high rate of infection. But how bad is it? Today we got an update from the Ministry of Health the national effort:

Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health and Wellness

"Well we have been on the ground ever since the Dengue, they had an outbreak in Belize City, yes, of course but our people our teams across the districts and the city we have been on the ground spraying and making sure that we....in fact, in Belize City we had to hire additional spray men to go out and assist the team the vector team, and similarly in the district we are putting together a program where in every region, Orange walk, Corozal down south in the west there will be additional persons hired temporarily to go out and work. But this is something routine that we do around this time. But with the outbreak of dengue in the city we decided to ramp up that and take it further and then be able to do so. We have seen somewhat of a control of that issue thankfully but we are doing our part as the ministry in the public health area. Our vector team has been out at the same. And at the same time as well we are doing the educational campaign making sure people understand, talking and I think there are some scheduled talk shows that will also be held so that people are sensitized more on what are the effects of dengue and how to protect from these things."
