Joseph Budna was abducted on August 22nd, and tonight 12 days later, 7News has obtained some security video of that abduction. Regrettably, what we have is a redacted version from a confidential source - which is zoomed in and grainy. So, we'll tell you up front, the video is not very clear - but we can vouch for its authenticity - and when pieced together it makes for a compelling and - we think offers conclusive proof that Budna was abducted by police. Here it is:
The video shows Budna being chased from Banquitas towards the courthouse and police station. He is pursued by one man while the Blue Equinox - which looks grey in this video - is also on his tail.
They try to catch him under the courthouse, and he dashes back towards Banquitas - all the while he is hollering.
He then runs across the street to the library where he falls to the sidewalk and they beat him for three minutes. You can see he is in the same outfit he did his last live transmission in. This is about 100 feet diagonally across from the police station. And you can see how freely his abductors are removing - they have no fear of being caught. They continue to beat him - all the while he is shouting - making noise.
After one and a half minutes of pounding, a police officer strides over from the station. One of the aggressors stands up - from beating an unarmed man - and casually waves off the responding officer. They went to talk in an area off camera for a few seconds, and the police officer then walked back to the station - sending home a civilian who was also responding.
And then in plain view in the heart of Orange Walk, 100 feet away from the police station the abductors can be seen carrying Budna away.
The Equinox then drives off and is later seen driving up stop to get away.
