Last week we reported on the tragic fire that claimed the life of 4 year old Kyra Bennett. Around 5:00 in the morning of September 16th, the preschooler was asleep in her Belize City home along with her mom when the 2 storey structure caught fire.
Tonight, the Fire Department has established that the cause of the fire was electrical.
According to the findings of the investigation, Kyra's grandfather, Winston Bennett ran an electronic repair downstairs, and the fire reportedly originated from an electrical outlet that shorted out. It then spread to the upper level and throughout the entire structure.
When the fire started, the mother exited the structure without the child - and numerous attempts were made to save her by getting in through the doors or window - but it was impossible.
