On Friday night's news, you may have seen competitive fisher from San Pedro Jorge Aldana railing against the multi agency shakedown that fishing vessels leaving Belize for a tournament in Roatan had to pay upon departure and return.
Well, as the old bible saying goes, let he without sin cast the first stone - and so has the Belize Port Authority in a righteous press release which says they, quote, "categorically denounce these allegations as they relate to the Belize Port Authority...Following a thorough review of the documentation submitted by the masters of vessels that departed Belize for the tournament and upon their return, the BPA confirms that there was no irregularity on the part of the Authority. All processes were executed in strict compliance with established procedures and in line with our legal obligations." End quote.
Well, in response Aldana has provided screenshots from his tour guide chat where there are numerous anecdotes and photos of corruption by officials. We have heard of similar complaints coming out of Placencia.
