And how does the former ComPol feel about his murder count for 2024 being bested by his successor in 2025?
Well, he said that was the plan all along:
Chester Williams, CEO, Ministry of Transport
"Well, I would be extremely happy is that if that is the case. But I must also say that I hand it over, in on the 1st of May of this year. And when I hand it over, crime was on a downward trend. For matter of fact, the murder was seven below the previous year figure, which is 2024. And I expected that the year would have been a better year. At the end of the day, the thing is that we had put in place a policing plan, a policing strategy of which the current commissioner was a part of the drafting of that policing plan. And I would have expected that the police would have carried through with that plan, throughout the year. And that was done. So with all that we have done from 2019 up to when I demitted office, the stage has been set up in such a way that the country should see a downward trend in crime, so long as the plan that we put in place were to be followed and so I just hope that they continue along the path that we have started. And if that is done, then certainly we should continue to see more success. I wish I would see a year where the country would have had no murders at all. I would be so happy because that is what we want, a life saved is a huge gain to not just the family, but to the country."
