And, another weekend death was accidental.
Tonight the Belize Police department is mourning one of its young officers after he was killed in a road traffic accident. PC Edwardo Cus was driving his Lifan brand motorcycle on the Phillip Goldson highway when it happened. ASP Stacy Smith explained what they observed at the scene.

"Police are investigating a traffic accident which resulted in the death of 28 year old Edward Cus a Belizean police constable of Belize city. The investigation commenced on Sunday 11th January 2026 at approximately 8:40Pm when officers of the precinct 4 jurisdiction were advised that an accident occurred near mile 1/2 on the Phillip Goldson highway. The officers proceeded to that location where they observed the unresponsive body of a male person who was later identified as Cus and also on the scene was a Lifan brand motorcycle which was damaged. What the investigation has so far suggested is that Cus was traveling on his motorcycle to Belize city when he lost control and collided into a metal lamppost that is located on the median in the highway. PC Cus has been a serving member of the Belize police department for just over 4 years and the loss of Mr Cus is certainly mourned by the ministry as well as the department. Though he has only amassed 4 years of service by all indications he was a very dedicated and committed police officer."
Cus was wearing a helmet when he crashed.
