Every year the press is invited to the police Compstat presentation of statistics. It's an important level of public accountability because the crime numbers are a direct reflection of society's safety - or lack of it.
But this year under the leadership of the new Commissioner of Police, Dr. Richard Rosado, the media was snubbed - no invite. Only the friction free Government Press Office was deemed worthy to attend.
And, not having to worry about defending his numbers to the press, the Compol in his speech was able to speak of the direction they seem to have in mind:
According to the numbers presented today - the murder count edged down marginally from 92 to 91. We note that our in house murder figure is at 95.
The reporting of major crimes also dipped slightly by 1 percent.
