Two teenagers are believed to have shot a security guard and stolen two guns in a robbery and attempted murder last night at the JL's compound at the corner of Douglas Jones and Cleghorn streets.
At around 9:45, police responded to a report of shots fired in the area. They found 49-year-old security guard Justo Pineda suffering from gunshot wounds.
Pineda was on duty inside the compound of JL's Quick Loan and was seated at the back of the property when two armed males opened fire, injuring him.
Pineda ran out of the compound and was later rushed to the KHMH for treatment. Police responding to the scene saw a male running from the Conch Shell Bay area. A constable set chase and apprehended a suspect with a ski mask at the corner of West Collet Canal and Vernon street. They learned that he was a 17 year old from Flamboyant Street. Police searched the area and found a Ruger pistol.
Another young male - only 16 - was apprehended nearby at the corner of Magazine Road and he was found with a black CZ 9mm pistol.
A security supervisor at JL's also reported that two firearms were missing from the security booth following the shooting. Pineda is listed in stable condition.
The two minors remain in custody pending charges.
