Last week we told you about 33 year old Belizean Benigno "Mouse" Loria who had been apprehended by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations - commonly known as ICE.
In an interview with Loria's mother she confirmed that her son fled to the US in 2023 and was offered asylum. She confirmed that Loria - who is from Corozal - had connections to a cartel group. But is he wanted in Belize? We tried to confirm this today with the commissioner of police who didn't say much:
Richard Rosado, Commissioner of Police
"All I can say for now is that during his time in Belize he was a person of interest for the Belize police department."
Reporter-
"What do you know about his departure from the country and police's search for him during their investigation?"

Richard Rosado, Commissioner of Police
"Well like I said he has been a person of interest in several incidents in the north and was a person of interest for the police department."
Reporter-
"Did police actively pursue him in Belize while he was here?"
Richard Rosado, Commissioner of Police
"Well we were trying to build cases against him but we know that he was involved in several activities that are questionable."
Reporter-
"Was any of those activities linked to investigations involving cartel operations?"
Richard Rosado, Commissioner of Police
"All I will say is that he was a person of interest for the Belize police department."
Reporter-
"Now how is the department working with US officials to get him back to answer to crime if a case has been built against him?"
Richard Rosado, Commissioner of Police
"I would have to check with my investigators to see if we have anything to charge him but as far as I know he was a person of interest in several incidents that happened in Belize."
