Police came under fire early on Easter Sunday morning in Caye Caulker village. That's when they started pursuing masked suspects on a LIFAN three wheeled cargo vehicle which was speeding toward the Bowen and Bowen distributor.
ASP Smith told us more today:
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer
"On Sunday, fifth April, 2026, at around 4:02 a.m., QRT personnel were conducting patrol on Avenida Lancosta when their attention was drawn to a red tricycle that was being driven by a masked man. And two other masked men were in the seat of the tricycle. The tricycle sped off and it was pursued by the police officers. It is reported that one of those masked men that was on board the tricycle fired shots in the direction of the police officers who returned fire."
"The male persons abandoned the tricycle and escaped and a search of that tricycle resulted in the discovery of a few burglary implements being pry bar, crowbar, etc. Police are in the process of tracing a tricycle and reviewing video footages with a view to identifying the culprits in this incident."

"What the investigation has suggested so far is that they were indeed going to burglarize an establishment. The officers have spoken to the owners of that establishment, advising them of the occurrence."
Notably, upon reaching the wharf, the driver of the three wheeler lost control, plunging the vehicle into the sea. Reports say they then hopped onto a boat that was waiting for them near the Fishermen's cooperative. A total of 17 expended casings were retrieved from the scene of the shootout.
