This morning at court, a 16-year-old was arraigned for the murder of 34-year-old mother of three Salma Orellana Funes. Because he is a minor, he was taken to Family Court along with his mother where he was read the charge of murder in her presence. From there, the Lords Bank resident was remanded at the Wagners Youth Facility. The accused will turn 17 on December 8.
The victim was a hostess at the "Da Buzz Restaurant and Lounge," where on Thursday night the teenager strode in and started talking with her. The two knew each other well, and he was demanding a phone from her. She flipped it on the bar and he snatched it; after that he proceeded to shoot her more than a dozen times.
Reports say he confessed to police - and also led them to the weapon in an area behind his family's home. But, so far investigators have not recovered the phone.
