Lemonal Woman Shot In Land Dispute

A land dispute in rural Belize caused a 21 year old woman to get shot today. It happened in Lemonal Village this afternoon where Stacey Middleton and two other women approached a bulldozer operator who was clearing a parcel of land and asked him to stop the work.

Police say the operator, identified as Rupert Alexander Gentle, allegedly pulled out a licensed firearm and fired a single shot, injuring Middleton in her right leg.

He has been detained and police recovered his 9mm pistol with 15 live rounds.

The matter remains under investigation.
