Placencia and Seine Bight residents are raising the alarm after they noticed dredging and filling in their lagoon. The most alarming part is that neither village council knows who is behind the dredging, for what project, or whether it's even approved. In addition, there are no lights to notify boats at night, creating a safety hazard.

We reached out to Chief Environmental Officer Anthony Mai who told us he has been made aware of it and explained that various government agencies are preparing to go and inspect it either tomorrow or Thursday. He said they will have more information once the team returns.

For now, work continues and conservationists are worried for the marine life in the lagoon, especially if the project is unauthorized. We will keep following this story.

There are reports that the contractor had previously violated conditions of a permit he received for a development on an offshore island.
