Tonight a mother is left to mourn the loss of a second child to gun violence.
In 2024, 15-year-old student Lamisha Moody was killed by stray bullets while going to the corner store; the bullets targeted a known gang figure.
Last night, her older brother, 19-year-old Lamar Garnett was the target and was gunned down not far from where his sister was killed.
Garnett was in his yard at home around 8:10 p.m. when a gunman approached and opened fire, hitting him several times.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and investigators are following several leads as they work to identify the gunman. Reports suggest that, in street circles, he had been linked to recent crimes in the Port Loyola area.
His murder is the third in a week in the SOE declared areas.
