The red carpet for the 2nd Belize Entertainment Awards show won't be rolled out until December, but the race to that finish line begins on Monday. For the first round of voting, show organizers are asking you to call up your favorite radio station and submit names of possible nominees in eleven categories, ranging from album of the year to favorite poet. Events Coordinator for Global Promotions Peter Johnson explains the voting process.
Peter Johnson, Global Promotions
"We are accepting nominations for the award show which should be held at the Bliss Center on the tenth of December 2005. We have contacted the different radio stations, throughout the country, so it's a countrywide thing, and we're inviting the general public to tune in to your favorite radio stations and you will hear the disc jockeys announcing that they are now inviting names for the nominees for the different categories. Of course that starts on Monday and runs for two weeks which should end on the 16th of September.
What we're trying to do is to get the public involved. We're trying to sensitize the public on how to be a part of promoting our local entertainers and our local artists. We feel that we have some Belizean artists who are talented and they try their utmost best to put out their best for the public to enjoy and we just feel like it's a way of us giving back to them."
Nominations close on September 16th. The show is set for December. The show's promoter, Global Promotions, plans to launch a website for the second round of voting which will follow.
