The Anglican Church of Belize has its 16th Bishop tonight. Right Reverend Bishop Phillip Wright was consecrated, ordained and enthroned today.

The event was held this morning at St. John's Cathedral in Belize City. It had the attendance of hundreds of the Anglican faithful as well as visiting bishops. Presiding over the entire event was Archbishop of the West Indies, Drexel Gomez.

The tone for the grandiose ceremony was set in the sermon by Canon Claude Berkley of Trinidad, who urged Bishop Designate Wright to be a man of his times.

Canon Claude Berkley,
"An institution which declares little becomes little. We want for you to be a big Bishop with a big church. Such ideas might inform your planning and forward movement and motivate your transformational leadership."

That commentary was by Reverend Cortez Nurse, and it was heard on Channel 7's live broadcast of the event which you can see repeat on Sunday right here on Channel 7. In attendance were the Governor General, the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, the Chief Justice, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Catholic Bishops Martin and Wright, and a wide cross section of other dignitaries.
