The Belizean Poets Society is having its second poetry competition this September, and if you can come up with two September inspired poems by the 18th of this month, you could win. Adele Ramos who is one of the organizers told us what the event is about.
Adele Ramos,
"It is extremely important. Firstly you realize that it ties in with the September celebrations and so the poems would have to be patriotic. One of them would have to be about Belize at 25 and the other will be about the Battle of St. George's Caye, this year is the 208th anniversary. And so what we are saying is that you could tie these historic events and what it means for us present day into the art or poetry.
Last year we gave out paper awards. This year we are going bigger and grander and we are giving out some pretty impressive trophies along with some other great prizes, video deals, CD deals, other poetry related prizes and of course some cash thrown in there.
And also this year we are not just looking written entries, there will be five finalists selected and out of those finalists there will be three winners. Those five finalists will be asked to go on stage and perform. So there will be judged by their performance and from that we will know who gets the trophies."
Entries are invited from those under 15, who will be in the emerging poets category, or those over 156, who will be in the senior emerging poets category; there will also be a category for accomplished poets, those over 18. You can signup by clicking here.
