It's Valentine's Day tomorrow but our story tonight isn't about roses and chocolates. That's right, this year we didn't do our usual number on giving those Valentine's standards. Indeed, they are timeless, but in truth roses die and chocolates are fattening. But tonight. We'll tell you about a gift that's fat free, and more than that it's actually free! And while it may cost far less than a dozen roses, it is worth much more. We're talking about poems - love poems to be precise...but not everyone can write a poem, or can they? Today we consulted two experts, women of words - Adele Ramos and Kalila Enriquez - and asked them, what is it that makes a love poem lovely? For Adele Ramos the key to writing a good love poem is honesty.
Adele Ramos, Poet
"A good love poem is first of all sincere, it comes from the heart. A good love poem has a sweet rhythm, a sweet beat to it, almost like a song. My favorite love poems are ones that are more on the romantic side."
Kalila Enriquez is not as delicate in her craft as Adele. Her love poems are racier. Kalila says the right love poem could be just what the doctor ordered for a love sick relationship.
Kalila Enriquez, Poet
"If it is a poem for a specific individual, and since this is Valentine's Day supposedly that's the kind of poem you would like to be writing, then put something that you and your partner have done, a memory and make it into a poem and I am sure that you partner would really appreciate that."
So whether you want to be plain-spoken or provocative - when you sit down to write a love poem for that loved one, the experts agree that the best verse is written not by the hand, but from the heart.
