Today is Valentine’s Day – which is also the Mayor of Belize City Zenaida Moya’s birthday. That’s two reasons to celebrate and Mayor Moya, the most powerful lady in the country, did it at the Battlefield Park. She was there feeding the homeless. It is part of her council’s ‘Adopt-a-Cause program,’ where Extra House and First Caribbean Bank provided the food and supplies and the Council coordinated it. Mayor Moya told us why she cares.
Zenaida Moya, Mayor of Belize City
“It is a apecial special day and I feel that today a lot of our homeless people may not have somebody to show them the love that everybody else or that a lot of people in Belize will be getting and I felt that we owe it not only to ourselves but to them to ensure that we try to ensure that they feel special

on this day.”
Keith Swift,
Today is also your birthday right?
Zenaida Moya,
“Yes it is my birthday. I am one year older and hopefully a lot wiser.”
Keith Swift,
Why did you see it necessary to do this?
Zenaida Moya,
“Well this is something that is close to my heart. I think we have to lead by example. If we want the entire community, the city, the country, to really work as a team and look out for others who may need help, we have to start right here.”
Moya says that her council feeds the homeless every two weeks.
