Two years we ago we introduced you to Kenroy Dawson. Ken Dawg, as he prefers to be called, was rapping about the problem of guns on the street. Since then he has been hard at work in the studio. Proof of that is that he will be releasing two albums. It is a double disc and the first one – “For Da Love of the Game” – was released on Friday. He told us that as always his music speaks the truth of the streets – and by extension his life story.

“This CD is different from the first one in that I have a lot of artists on this one. I have about 6 or 7 artists featured and that is why I call this one for the love of the game. I could have named it dedicated to the game but because I work with a lot of other artists I decided to name it ‘For the Love of the Game’ and also the reason for naming it like that is because each track has to deal with the love for something, like staying in school has to do with the love for the students. ‘Bow Down’ has to deal with the love for myself, you have to love yourself. ‘No Pity’ is for the love of the country, ‘Group Love’ is for the love of partying. ‘Riding’ is for the love of the ladies, it is for the love of a lot of things.”

Where do you get your inspiration from?

“Its just life. What I bring through, I don’t want it to pass like that. I want it to go in history and that’s why if anything happens to me tragic, at least I have this to represent the type of life that I lived. I rap life. I want to be out there teaching people about wrongs and good things, what is good for you.”

Why should they buy the CD?

“Because its something different, Belize is missing – in fact Belize never had a CD like this – a double CD. I am trying to be the first rap artist to release a double disc in one year and its good- it has a lot of artists that maybe other people know out there but you just know them by their stage name and its worth listening, guaranteed. I give it a ten out of ten.”
