Seven regional beauty queens are in Belize tonight to compete in a pageant - which we can assure you won’t be held anywhere near Margaret Johnson’s living room. They are the Reina de la Costa Maya contestants, and the closest these 8 beauty queens will get to a house is the House of Culture. They were there today for a photo shoot and we said hello.

Natalia Ruiz, Mexico
“I feel very happy. I am excited to be here in Belize. It is a wonderful place and the people, the food, it is very nice. I am so excited and proud to be Mexican and be representing my country.”

Karina Gordon, Nicaragua
“For me it is a new experience. It is my first time here in Belize and the place is very nice. It is similar to something like Nicaragua, I am from part of the coast of Nicaragua, Blue Fields exactly. So Blue Fields is

something like this so I feel at home.

Normally I don’t like to say you’re going to see this and you’re going to see that. I just say wait for the end and you’re going to see what Nicaragua can give.”

Maria Quesada, Costa Rica
“I am really excited. I think it is a great pageant and in Costa Rica we don’t know a lot of Maya culture but I am so excited, I am so glad that the organization invited Costa Rica. So I hope to give you the best that you see a great pageant and I expect you all to go.”

Jessie Medina, Belize
“I feel very excited. I am proud of myself for representing my country at this prestigious pageant of La Reina del la Costa Maya. They can expect a lot of energy from me because I know I have a lot of experience. I have gained a lot of experience through the other two pageants that I have represented my country in and so I have to win so I hope for the best.”

Emelia Solis, Panama
“I am really excited to be here in Belize. I’m looking forward

to see what happens in San Pedro and let’s just have a great time.”

Daniela Augspurb, Salvador
“I am very exited to be here. I know that there are beautiful beaches and beautiful things to see in Belize so I am just very very excited.”

Keith Swift,
What do you think about the competition, the other girls?

Karina Gordon,
“They’re good.”

Keith Swift,
But not as good as you.

Karina Gordon,
“No, Nicaragua is the best.”

Jessie Medina,
“To be sincere with you I feel no competition. They are winners at their country but I know I could do this and I am capable of winning this competition.”

Keith Swift,
So you’ll keep the crown at home?

Jessie Medina,
“Yes of course definitely.”

The contestants are in San Pedro tonight. The swimsuit contest is Tuesday night and pageant night is Thursday. This is the first year Panama is participating. One more note is that Belize’s Maria Jeffrey is the reigning queen.
