He is a former high school teacher and is now the Mayor’s assistant but deep down Norman Rodriquez is a poet. Proof of that came this morning when he released his third book of poems. He calls this one “Glances” and that is because he says this is his first book of multi-themed poems. There are 50 poems - some written two years ago and others written the past two months. He told us that he guarantees everyone will like at least five of the poems.
Norman Rodriguez, Poet
“Death, poverty, homelessness, and the young people who joggle drugs on the streets, Aids - I have gone into the minds of people, seeing how they’ve suffered and I’ve tried to bring out what they feel so that others can get an insight into that.
I write best when I am experiencing some emotional problem or stress or see people going through challenges. So it can happen everyday. If I am in my work spot behind my chair and somebody comes in and maybe I get upset and then I go into a mood of thoughtfulness and that is when I would just put together a poem in just a few minutes.
I guarantee any person who takes up one of my books and reads the poem – I guarantee that they will find at least five poems that they will like very very much. I’ve seen how people react when they read through my poems.”
The book is available at the Angelus Press.
