Last Thursday, Belize joined the rest of the world in launching the observance of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence.

It's an annual campaign that calls for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. This year, the theme for this campaign is "Orange the world: End violence against women now!"

Here in Belize, where domestic violence against women is still a serious problem, the government and its partners against gender-based violence took that theme and applied it to the National Assembly Building. The government wants to signal the country's commitment to fighting for a future where Belizean women and girls no longer need to fear gender-based violence.
