And the flag raising was only the first event that the Belize City Council had planned for this month. Earlier today, the deputy mayor, Allan Pollard, told us more about the other activities that City residents can look forward to throughout September.

Allan Pollard, Deputy Mayor, Belize City
"September is always our busy month, this morning we started off with the flag raising ceremony at the roundabout with the scouts and the girl guides to really kick off things formally. As you know we have tenth and the twenty first which are big days for our culture and we are having our tenth day celebration Bram and of course the 21st ceremony with the road march and I'm happy to say that all the schools are attending so it will be a good showing to see all the kids back on the road in their uniforms parading. Also, after that we will have the September 21st Bram as well. In addition to that we are trying our best to still while focusing on September and celebrations, making sure that we kind of get some maintenance going, a lot of these roads where there will be carnival, where they will be some of these parades, we had to ensure that the manhole covers and sidewalks, those are repaired, other maintenance stuff as well. Our works departments is fully committed and they're all deployed right now making sure that we have a smooth September and a safe one of course."
