And so while this is a one time holiday to be observed only in 2022, the fact that it happens on September 19th also created a jarring convergence of dates.

Today, Minister of Constitutional Reform Henry Charles Usher noted an odd historical symmetry in this one time observance:

Henry Charles Usher, Minister of Constitutional and Political Reform
"It's not an annual holiday, it's a one time holiday, it's the day that she's being laid to rest and ironically and coincidentally it's also the day that Mr Price passed away, the 19th, so they were adversaries in their life and they're joined in death because the day he passed is the day that she's being laid to rest so I think it is a symbolic, it's an important day for all Belizeans to reflect on where we are and where we want to go."

We note that Queen Elizabeth's colonial government tried to jail George Price for sedition in 1958 because they alleged he had allegedly dared to speak insulting words about the Queen.
